Mission Statement
Empowering Single parent, One Slice at a Time
At Crust and Care, our mission is rooted in a deep commitment to both culinary excellence and creating lasting social impact. We recognize the extraordinary resilience of single mothers, a group that comprises approximately 15 million women in the United States, with 70% of single mothers actively participating in the workforce (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2020). These women, often earning 50-60% less than their married counterparts, are the backbone of their families, yet face substantial barriers to economic mobility. Despite working hard, many single mothers are still living on the edge, with nearly 25% of them and their children living in poverty (U.S. Census Bureau, 2020). For families headed by a single mother, the poverty rate is about three times higher than that of two-parent households, underlining the urgent need for support.
Single mothers also face one of the highest costs of living: childcare, which can take up to 30% or more of their income, with average annual childcare costs ranging between $9,000 and $15,000 depending on the age of the child and geographic location (Economic Policy Institute). These financial pressures make it even harder for single mothers to pursue career growth, with only 25% of single mothers completing a degree or certification (Institute for Women's Policy Research). As a result, many are forced into part-time, low-wage jobs that offer limited benefits and little room for advancement, further entrenching their families into poverty.
Our mission at Crust and Care is to break this cycle. We believe that every single mother deserves the opportunity to not only survive but thrive. Through our business, we aim to offer more than just jobs—we are committed to providing career pathways that lead to long-term success. By offering job training, mentorship, and a supportive work environment, we will create opportunities for single mothers to build their career
